Nestled in the historic district of Wavertree, our Congregational Church stands as a proud landmark, reflecting over 150 years of faith, community, and local history. This Heritage Open Weekend, we throw open our doors free of charge, inviting you to explore the beauty, stories, and heritage that make this building so special.
Originally built in 1836, the church was designed in the Georgian style, typical of the era when Wavertree was growing from a village into a thriving suburb.
Entry is free – no booking required. Donations are welcome to help with the ongoing care and maintenance of our historic building.
At Wavertree Congregational Church, we have a long and cherished history of bringing families, friends, and communities together. One of our most beloved traditions is our Wedding Dress Display — a celebration of love, history, and the countless marriages that have taken place within these walls over the years.
This unique exhibition showcases wedding dresses worn by brides over the ages, spanning decades of fashion and tradition. From elegant gowns of the early 20th century to classic styles of more recent years, each dress tells a personal story of commitment, joy, and faith.
Alongside the dresses, you will find: Photographs of the weddings Details about the couples and their connection to the church Vintage accessories, veils, and bouquets Historical notes about marriage services and traditions at our church
Whether you have your own memories of a wedding here, are interested in local history, or simply appreciate beautiful craftsmanship, this display offers a wonderful opportunity to step back in time and share in these special moments.
We are always looking to expand our collection! If you or a family member has a wedding dress, photographs, or memories to share for future displays, we would love to hear from you. All items are cared for with great respect and returned safely after the exhibition.

We are proud to be part of the Congregational Federation that means we are a free church who embrace congregationalism. Congregationalism is all about Christians working and worshipping together in independent congregations making decisions as the Holy Spirit leads them in matters of worship, witness and service to their communities. We are the only Congregational Church in Liverpool.
Wavertree Congregational Church started in 1836 as Trinity Chapel. We are a relatively small congregation but are very friendly and welcoming with huge enthusiam.
At the moment we dont have a minister. However this means that our services are fresh and vibrant as we embrace a series of guest preachers and guest ministers from week to week to lead our worship.
We are a congregation that embraces modern hymns as well as the more traditional hymns also. If you are looking for a church that has a lovely atmosphere and is peaceful and tranquil to worship at then Wavertree Congregational Church is just what you are looking for.
We are family orientated and this means we cater for the needs of the children as well as the adults. We are a caring church and like to embrace the wellbeing of our church family, friends and also the local community. We have strong links with Prince Alfred Care Home.
In this modern technological world we recognize the need to move with the times and that is why we decided to undertake this website project.
